Breakout-centric colour matching action. Use the W & S keys to move your paddle (D to serve the ball), break down the wall and earn combos for consecutively hitting blocks of the same colour. Clear a stage completely to earn a Colourbreak, and an extra ball.
Many people including me, don't have a qwerty or qwertz keyboard, so I added arrow key support in my fork: http://www.playmycode.com/play/game/bigblind/colorbreak-seb-original I hope you don't consider this copying, but if you do, please add the arrow key support, and let me know, then I'll take down my fork.
I put a lot of effort into the presentation (at the expense of gameplay, I'm sure some might argue). I did intend to add some of the things you mention, but not being as quick at programming as some I decided after a point to just get it out there and start something new.
PMC will soon support forking/copying, so perhaps in the future someone might like to take what I've done a bit further- or at tue very least, add a back wall! ;)
I liked the simplistic yet elegant Style of this game(!)
Suggestion: I would like more action(/interesting gameplay). Like, power-ups (e.g. multiple balls etc), ball's speed to increase faster (or move towards with an acceleration, but lose the accelerated velocity when hits the pad/tiles [hope I didn't confuse you...] ). Also, various/different tile's placements. Finally, a nice tune of ambient style would be nice.
P.S.: Liked the name of this game.
I was with this idea for a while. Combos for breaking the same color so you have to try directing your ball? Yeah, man. Only thing is you can't direct it very preciously, but that's okay. New tables when you drop the ball? Alright, the tables are small. Then on my 3rd life I get one where they're all vertical rows and I think "if I get my ball on the back row I can get a perfect combo!" Then when I get the ball to the other side at a high angle it... flies off the back and is lost.
Nope. Ain't playin' that.

Audiovisually simply elegantly stylish game

@cymon
After a couple of goes you'll be more used to the bat/ball trajectories. Thanks for playing though...
